So Close !
They say all good things must come to end and that may be true but they tell you that it felt pretty bad when it happens. That is the emotion I got from Raytown South cardinals on Friday night when they failed to make it to the state finals in hopes on avenging that last second lost.

Cardiac Cardinals
The Raytown South Cardinals added a new wrinkle to the teams resume, the ability to give every fan watching a heart attack. This past Saturday they faced the Nixa Eagles on their home field in the quarterfinals of the state championship tournament. The Nixa Eagles kept the high powered Cardinal offense in check for most of the game and gave me concern that this years season may come to end. But Jerrick Walton had other plans, he was the one part of the Cardinals offense the Eagles had no answer for. He ripped off chunks yardage every time he touched ball, powering the Cardinals to 3 touchdowns and the single most exciting play I have seen in high school football.
With 7 seconds left in a tied 15 - 15 game, Raytown South had the ball on the Eagles 39 yard line, Quarterback, Dennis Tanner was flushed out of the pocket scrambling all over looking for an open receiver. In an attempt to get the ball off he was hit by a Nixa defender, causing the ball to be popped straight up in the air were it was almost intercepted by a Nixa defender and came down to Jerrick Walton, who side step a tackle stepped out of another, gained several block with a crushing one headed for the left sideline and beat the Nixa defense to the end zone for the game-winning touchdown in a 21-15 victory.

The Battle of Raytown
It is the biggest high school rivalry I have seen in recent years but the outcome of this years game would have not made you believe it. Raytown South dished out a 52 to 7 beat down of Raytown Blue jays, winning the district championship in convincing fashion. The playoffs start Wednesday night and I'm looking forward to seeing if I need to make plans for the trip to St. Louis.

Cardinals Hittings on All Cyclinders
Yeah, my favorite high school team is hitting on all cyclinders, they way the dismantled Northeast high school on Saturday was a display of the entire team working. It got boring by halftime but they took one step to being 3 and o in district play with that 42 to 0 thrashing. Not to sound like a reporter but they have the same intense look they did last year when my son helped them make it to the stae championship. Well enjoy the pictures

Football is in Full Swing
Well another great weekend of football action with the exception of TERRIBLE call in the Raytown South game that would have sent it to overtime but that is another story. Making photos is such much fun these days but the kids are starting to look for me even during the game. I keep telling them you do your job I'm doing mine.

Now That is Coaching !
Normally this would refer to a coach keeping his team focused and coming back from some major deficit. But today it's completely different, Saturday was the start of the little league Seminoles Football organization that I will be following. Well went I got to the game I saw these two young men sitting at a table on the sidelines with books and paper supplies. At first I thought it was some more playbook training, but as I got closer it was school books. See these players had been slacking at school and the coaches of the Seminoles hold education higher than sports and to motivate them they had to come to the game in uniform and bring a table and chairs and do their homework during the game.......Seminoles coaches your stock just went up with me. Now onto some shots from the weekend.
